I Quit Being a Short-Order Cook - Here's What Happened to My Picky Eater

Image
For every parent who's ever made mac and cheese at 6 AM because it was the only 'safe' breakfast option. You know that moment when you've lovingly prepared what you thought was a "safe" meal or maybe even their favorite from last week, and your child takes one look and declares, "Eww, I don't want this"? Yeah, that moment where your heart sinks a little and you wonder if you're failing at this whole parenting thing. We've all been there. Standing in the kitchen, looking at yet another rejected plate, while everyone around us says, "It's just a phase" or "Kids won't starve themselves." And while they're technically right about picky eating being normal, here's what I've learned:   Just because something is developmentally typical doesn't mean it's not    incredibly challenging to live through as a parent. If you're the parent feeling like a short-order cook, questioning your food ch...

Get Ready for Back to School: Tips and Essentials

Back To School

BUBS Family!

How’s everyone doing? We hope you've been enjoying your summer adventures. We took a little break from building Hello BUBS to enjoy some travel and spend quality time with our families. Now, we’re back and more excited than ever to help you get ready for the upcoming school year! Whether your little ones are starting school for the first time or heading back for another year, we've got some great tips and essentials to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Create a Back-to-School Checklist

A checklist can be a lifesaver when preparing for the new school year. Here are some must-haves:

  • School Supplies: Notebooks, pencils, pens, backpacks, and more.
  • Clothing and Uniforms: Check sizes and replace outgrown items.
  • Lunch Gear: New lunch boxes, water bottles, and reusable snack bags.
  • Technology: Ensure devices are updated and ready for any online learning.

As we’ve been revitalizing Hello BUBS, we realized how important it is to have everything organized. A checklist can help ensure you don’t miss anything crucial for the new school year.

Re-establish Routines

Summer often means a break from regular routines, just like how we paused our work on the app to enjoy the sunny days. Start easing your kids back into school schedules a couple of weeks before school starts:

  • Bedtime: Gradually shift bedtime earlier to ensure they get enough sleep.
  • Morning Routines: Practice getting up, dressed, and ready to leave the house on time.
  • Homework Time: Set aside a specific time each day for reading or educational activities to get back into the habit.

Organize a Study Space

Having a dedicated, clutter-free study area can help kids focus on their homework and projects. Make sure it’s stocked with all necessary supplies and is free from distractions.

We found that having a well-organized space is key to productivity and focus. The same goes for your kids and their study space! Set up a cozy nook with good lighting, a comfortable chair, and all the essentials within arm’s reach. Personalize it with some of their favorite things to make it inviting and inspiring. A well-organized, pleasant study space can make homework time much more enjoyable and effective.

Plan Nutritious Meals and Snacks

Healthy meals and snacks are crucial for keeping your kids energized and focused. Plan and prep balanced meals that they can enjoy at school and at home.

Good nutrition is a key element in maintaining energy and focus. Make sure your kids are fueled up for their school day! Get them involved in planning and prepping their lunches – it can be a fun activity that also teaches them about healthy eating. Think colorful fruits and veggies, whole grains, and proteins that keep them full and satisfied. And don't forget about those afternoon snacks to keep their energy up until dinner!

Talk About the New School Year

Discussing what to expect can help alleviate any anxiety your kids might have:

  • Meet the Teacher: If possible, visit the school or meet the teacher before the first day.
  • New Friends: Encourage your kids to reconnect with friends and meet new classmates.
  • Set Goals: Help them set achievable goals for the school year to stay motivated.

As we’ve reconnected with our goals for Hello BUBS, we’re excited to help you and your kids set and achieve new goals for the school year.
