The Summer Camp Shuffle

The Summer Camp Shuffle Is Real (And Yes, You Can Actually Afford It) A no-judgment guide to patching together a summer that doesn't wreck your budget Okay, let's be real about what June actually looks like. You've got a spreadsheet (or a chaotic Notes app list) trying to cover roughly ten weeks of summer. Week one is the YMCA. Week two is the science camp that was weirdly expensive but your kid begged. Weeks three and four are... a question mark. Grandma takes a week. There's a gap in July where two camps don't line up and you're already planning to "work from home" with a 5yo climbing on you... That's the summer camp shuffle. T he annual scramble where you stitch together a patchwork of camps, sitters, and favors to keep your kids busy, safe, and learning while you still, you know, have a job. It's stressful, it's expensive, and almost nobody talks about how hard the logistics actually are. So let's talk about it. Why camp matters m...

Summer Check-In and Thoughts on Traveling Internationally with Kids

Summer Vibes

Hello Hello BUBS Family,

How’s everyone’s summer going so far? It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through—time really does fly, doesn't it? Before we know it, it’ll be "Back to School, Back to School" (for those of you who know, I'm quoting Adam Sandler in Billy Madison)!

I’ve got wanderlust on the mind, and I'm betting some of you do, too. Especially when it comes to bringing the kiddos for some international adventures. So, how do you survive those long-haul flights? Got any magic tricks for keeping the peace in the skies? I'd love to hear your hacks!

Turn Your Trip Into a Game

Travel can be a awesome adventure, especially through the eyes of your children. I came across this great article by Alison Fox She talks about how to make the trip for your kids more exciting, why not turn it into a game?
  • Ask children to point out things that are new to them.
  • You can do a treasure hunt for them.

Finding Your Zen on the Go: Parents' Time-Out Tricks!

And what about when you land? Are you all about hitting every playground / child friendly activity, or do you squeeze in some grown-up time to recharge? I've heard that some of you are pros at sneaking in a mini-break within the break. Got a relative or a nanny tagging along to give you a breather? But what if you need a moment to yourselves and are traveling without extra hands?

Here are a few tips for carving out some adult downtime:

  • Kids’ Clubs and Hotel Activities (If staying at a family friendly resort): Many resorts offer kids' clubs or supervised activities that are not only fun but also safe. Let the kids enjoy some crafts or games while you grab a coffee (drink) or lounge by the pool.
  • Technology Timeout: Bring along tablets or devices loaded with age-appropriate content. A little screen time can give you a needed break to read a book or enjoy a quiet meal together.
  • Interactive Museums and Play Centers: These venues are great because they offer activities that engage children independently, allowing you to keep an eye from the sidelines without being directly involved.
  • Early Bedtimes: Even on vacation, don't be afraid to stick to early bedtimes for the kids. (Here's a tip, try to book an accommodation with an extra room, or separation from where your child is sleeping) Once they're tucked in, enjoy a movie night in your hotel room, a balcony chat, or a peaceful nightcap.
Please share! Whether it’s a fail-proof game plan for airplane antics or secret tips for a parents-only timeout—let’s swap those hacks. Drop your thoughts in the comments and help us all get an idea on how to cruise through our summer travels!

Let's keep making waves this summer, one adventure at a time!
