The Elevator Stare-Down: Why I Stopped Forcing My Shy Kid to Say Hello

Image
Should You Force Your Shy Child to Say Hello to Adults? Picture this: You're in an elevator with your 4-year-old when a friendly adult says, "Hi there!" Instead of responding, your child just... stares. And stares. The silence stretches on while you're thinking, "Why the intense stare-down instead of just saying hi?" The adult shifts uncomfortably, you feel that familiar heat of embarrassment creeping up your neck, and you find yourself saying, "Say hello, sweetie!" Sound familiar? Yeah, me too. Quick Answer: Research shows you shouldn't force shy children to greet adults. Pushing interactions before they're ready can increase shyness and self-consciousness. Instead, offer options like waving or smiling, and respect their natural temperament. This literally happened to me last week, and I spent the rest of that awkward elevator ride wondering: Am I raising a rude kid? Should I be pushing harder? What's with the staring? If ...

New Year, New Adventures: Making Space for the Memories to Come

BUBS New Year Update

Hey there, BUBS family!

Can you believe it's 2025 already? Hope you all had an amazing holiday season with your little ones!

Some Big News...

I've got to share something super exciting... We just welcomed a little one to the world! Yep, I'm back in the sleep-deprived parents club now with our beautiful baby girl. These past few weeks have been a wild ride of midnight feeds, figuring out diaper changes, and soaking in all those newborn snuggles.

Talk about hands-on research for Hello Bubs, right?

You All Rock!

December was huge for us. So many of you reached out with amazing suggestions and feedback about the app. We're seriously blown away by how engaged and helpful you all are! Not gonna lie, between baby cuddles and catching whatever sleep we can, development has been moving a bit slower than usual (fellow parents, you know how it goes!).

But don't worry, we're going through every single piece of feedback you've sent our way.

What's Cooking?

Even with the new baby chaos, our awesome team is plugging away at some cool updates based on what you've told us. We're working on:

  • Making the app easier to navigate (because who has time for complicated menus with a baby, right?)
  • Adding more ways to customize your tracking (because every baby is different!)
  • Tweaking things here and there based on your suggestions We'll be rolling these out bit by bit over the next few weeks.
*No rushing. We want to make sure everything works just right for you all.

Looking Ahead

I've got to say, I'm getting back into my groove with the baby. But there's so much new techniques I've learned, that I jot down notes between diaper changes about features I wish I had right now (usually at 3 AM). There's nothing like living it to really understand what could make parents' lives easier. Thanks for sticking with us and being the most amazing community we could ask for. Your messages and support mean everything, especially during this crazy wonderful time.

Here's to an awesome 2025 – may it be filled with lots of baby giggles, tiny victories, and maybe even a full night's sleep! (Hey, we can dream, right?)

Catch you soon!
