Our Pandemic Babies Are Starting Kindergarten: Two Moms on Letting Go

Two BUBS moms on sending their pandemic babies to kindergarten...  The letting go, and the hard first weeks From the BUBS community... These two stories were shared with us by moms in the BUBS community and published here with their permission. Their kids were born into the same strange year and are starting kindergarten now, one mom reflecting on the ache of letting go, the other on the tender, worrying first weeks when the friends haven't come yet. If you're somewhere in between, maybe their words will feel like yours too. Have a story you'd like to share? We'd love to hear it. I bought a backpack this week. A real one. Not the tiny toddler kind that holds a snack and a stuffed animal, but a big-kid backpack with a name tag pocket and straps I had to adjust down as far as they'd go. It's hanging by the door right now, waiting for the first day of kindergarten. And every time I walk past it, my chest does this funny thing...  part pride, part something I don...

The Power of Community: Reflections from a Local Children's Gear Swap

Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a children's gear swap event right here in our neighborhood. It wasn't just a chance to introduce more parents to our Hello BUBS app—it was a real, hands-on moment to engage with the community we're serving. The event was a huge success, and I want to share some thoughts on why community is so essential, especially for parents.

A Gathering of Kindred Spirits

The children’s gear swap was more than just an event; it was a gathering of kindred spirits. As parents, we all tread along a similar path, facing the joys and challenges that come with raising little ones. There’s something incredibly powerful about coming together, sharing experiences, and realizing you’re not alone in this journey. Seeing parents exchange not just toys and clothes but also stories and advice was truly heartwarming.

Sharing is Caring

One of the highlights for me was seeing the genuine acts of kindness—a parent donating extra baby gear to a new mother, or experienced parents offering tips to first-timers. It’s clear that when we share, we’re not just passing on physical items; we’re giving support, love, and encouragement.

Community Support in Action

For many parents, the event was a chance to declutter and refresh their children’s wardrobes and toy chests without the pressure of spending money. But it was so much more than that. It was a demonstration of community support in action. Parents left not just with what they needed, but with boosted spirits from the knowledge that they have a network of neighbors who understand and support them.

Hello BUBS: Born from Community Needs

Attending this event also reinforced why I started Hello BUBS. This app isn’t just a tool for buying, selling, or swapping gear—it’s a platform built to strengthen the very fabric of our parent community. It’s about making these supportive interactions more accessible and more frequent. Hello BUBS aims to harness that incredible community spirit and bring it into every parent’s home.

Join Us in Building Stronger Communities

As we continue to grow and develop Hello BUBS, our mission remains clear: to nurture a supportive, engaged, and thriving community of parents. Whether it’s through our app or events like the gear swap, we are committed to building stronger communities.

Feeling good about the event isn’t just about the success in numbers or the items swapped—it’s about the smiles, the shared experiences, and the connections forged. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do.

We’d love to hear from you—your stories, your needs, and your ideas for how we can serve you better. Together, let's continue to support each other in this beautiful, challenging, and rewarding journey of parenthood.
